QualitySysVillab - Protecting sustainable qualities in neighbourhood developments through process control and new digital methods
Development of a process concept to bring sustainable qualities in neighbourhood development from the intention and announcement level to the built reality. The process is supported by digital methods of energy and structural design and evaluated in the context of a case study.
REGOreal - 100% Renewable Energy Region: Local Energy Common Good Economy in real laboratories for networked energy and mobility cells
In REGOreal, the exploration for a 100% renewable energy region in the area of Retz-Horn-Krems-Tulln (Lower Austria) and Mallnitz (Ktn) is taking place. There are four focus topics: 100 Renewable Energy Communities (REC), 1.000 building renovations, 10.000 energy exporters (in the sense of employees who carry the approach into their private environment) and 100 Mio. km of sustainable mobility with extensive use of IT for the development of local integrated energy systems (IES) to integrate a colorful mix of different actors and objects.
RENOWAVE.AT - The innovation lab for sustainable, climate-neutral renovation of buildings and districts
RENOWAVE.AT will act as a central contact point for collaboration in innovation projects and provide systematic and early access to as well as promote innovative, scalable renovation concepts and sustainable renovation technologies within real development environments (open innovation principle).
REal - The laboratory for Integrated Regional Renewable Energy Systems
In the REal project, a holistic, scalable and user-friendly concept is created, whereby sector-coupled, municipal energy systems with 100% renewable energy can be implemented, considering all necessary aspects from planning to operation, reducing design costs and accelerating an Austria-wide implementation.
ReAssuRe – risk management for re-use of construction components and building technology by non-destructive on-site testing procedures
Risk assessment and insurability is essential for the re-use of functional components in buildings. In the best case, properties of components can be examined before they are removed from the donor building. ReAssuRe identifies suitable on-site testing procedures and establishes a network for the quality assurance of re-use components.
ReBuildStock - Portfolio management for the decarbonisation of larger housing stocks
Portfolio management method to support the decision-making processes of owners of larger housing stocks in developing strategies for the rapid and socially responsible decarbonisation of their building stock.
ReCon: Development of a resilient hook-and-loop-fastening-system for the adaptable assembly of building components in the building industry
Systemic examination of the hook-and-loop fastener and building component interfaces for the development of a resilient fastening system between parts/components with different functions and lifespan. The desired result serves to verify the fastening system and forms a basis for further research and establishment in the building industry.
Reallabor 100% renewable energy Waldviertel
Under the motto "Always one step ahead", the aim is to develop a content-related and economic implementation concept for a "Reallabor 100% erneuerbare Energie Waldviertel".
Reallabor Weizplus - Reallabor climate-neutral region Weizplus
Clarification of relevant questions for the potential establishment of a real lab in the region of Weizplus, which aims at a 100% supply of the region with renewable energies by 2030. The content-related technological focus of the activities of the future real lab is on all energy-relevant sectors (heating, electricity, cooling) applied to the focal points of energy efficiency and replacement of fossil energy in buildings, in trade and industry as well as mobility.
ResourceRevival - District development from industry site to resource neutrality in Möllersdorf
The reuse of building elements is a much-discussed topic, but a truly circular district encompasses much more. Through interdisciplinary cooperation as part of a co-creative concept development at the Werk Möllersdorf, previously separately considered aspects of the circular economy are combined, symbioses between demand and availability of materials, energy, rainwater and grey water are identified and their circularity is maximized.
SAFE - Creating a safe school environment together
Tactical urbanism for the temporary redesign of school surroundings to reorganize school mobility in a participatory process. The resulting catalogue of measures will serve as a blueprint for an implementation at other schools in Austria.
SAVE circular approaches for green buildings!
The project demonstrates the cycle and use of synergies in an ARWAG residential building from the extraction of valuable raw materials through a urine treatment plant (fertilizer) using energy recovery measures (heat recovery, heat pump, photovoltaics) to the use of the fertilizer for the generously designed greening measures and the associated effects on the microclimate.
SELF²B - self-aware, self-diagnosing buildings, HVAC, and PV systems for the next generation of energy efficient operations
SELF²B develops and demonstrates an AI-based, self-learning, and self-diagnosing fault detection and diagnosis (FDD) solution for HVAC and PV systems in two buildings in Vienna. The innovation surpasses the current state of the art by combining semantic data, ontologies, and machine learning. The goal is to achieve energy savings and efficiency improvements in building operations and to make the technology widely applicable.
SPIDER - Subtraction as a measure to Preserve and Insulate historic Developments by Electric Robots
The purpose of this exploration is to unlock the potential of autonomous, data-driven robots that achieve improvements of the thermal building performance through air entrapments in a continuous process.
STPionier - St. Pölten: From industrial city to climate pioneer city
Until the year 2022, the city of St. Pölten did not have a strategy or concept that dealt decisively with the climate crisis. One of the reasons for this was the lack of a responsible department in the St. Pölten administration. With the pioneer city process, a staff unit has now been established that takes on climate agendas and introduces and promotes them in municipal processes and projects.
SYSPEQ - Systemische Lösung zum Betrieb von Plusenergiequartieren
Full-scale planning concepts for positive energy districts (PEDs) and their operation as energy communities (ECs). The focus is on the implementation in the existing building stock, especially in the area of social/non-profit housing. Financing options for renewable generation units, planning and operation of a PED (especially as an EC), marketing opportunities for surplus electricity and the development of an information and networking platform are part of this project. A special highlight is the practical proof-of-concept in Fuchsenloch, which is a social housing quarter of Sozialbau.
Sani60ies - Demonstration of minimally invasive thermal and energetic refurbishment of classic 1950s and 1960s apartment buildings
System development of a façade-integrated building component activation for "warm" refurbishments with high transfer potential to buildings of classic apartment complexes from the 1950s and 1960s. The system is being tested and further developed based on three building projects and demonstrated through broad application (over 200 flats).
Smart & Urban Tree - Exploring integrative possibilities of structures for urban shading
The project "Smart & Urban Tree" explores large-scale artificial structures, which may serve as a supplementary alternative to other greening measures, such as trees and facade greenery, in dense urban contexts, where traditional concepts cannot be applied in a satisfactory manner. Such structures offer a wide-range of to-be integrated functions and can contribute to mitigation of urban heat islands.
Smart Dag - smart and climate-neutral renovation of the Dag Hammarskjöld housing estate
For a smart and sustainable renovation of the Dag Hammarskjöld housing estate in the city of Klagenfurt, a residential area from the 1950/1960s, the existing housing stock (buildings, green and open space, social structure) will be analysed and assessed based on the "Quartier &Wir" guide. The results are the basis for the launch of an architectural competition. The residents of the area who still live on site and the housing development agency of the department of the provincial Carinthian Government are involved in the feasibility study. The aim is to transfer the results of the study to other renovation projects and thus contribute to achieving the city of Klagenfurt's climate goals.
Smart Pölten 2.0 Holistic view on a Vertical Farm in preparation for a demonstration project for the city of St. Pölten
The city of St. Pölten forsees great potential in Vertical Farming with regard to the objectives related to the concept of the Smart City program - linking local food production, quality of life by reducing resource consumption. This has to be evaluated by combining Vertical Farms with existing living buildings. Eco-social and socio-economic considerations play an important role in this process.
