KliB40-Climate Compass: Climate-neutral Bregenz 2040, climate compass for the structured participation of stakeholders and the citizens
Short Description
Starting point / motivation
The "Climate Neutrality Roadmap Bregenz 2040 (KliB40)" of the provincial capital of Bregenz was unanimously adopted by the Bregenz City Council and aims to reduce direct CO2 emissions by 90% (at least 80%) and indirect CO2 emissions by at least 30% by 2040. The remaining emissions are to be offset by compensation measures. In addition to the reduction targets, the roadmap includes a process for selecting, implementing and monitoring the success of measures as well as the creation of annual energy and CO2 balances.
Contents and goals
The "Bregenz Climate Compass" will make the development/selection of measures, monitoring and communication transparent and reduce the effort required for annual planning.
It enables the various stakeholders such as administrations, companies and NGOs to commit to climate neutrality and actively implement measures that are taken into account in the city-wide balancing and monitoring of the climate compass. The climate compass reduces the effort required for annual planning and enables the coordination of climate protection activities in Bregenz.
Methods
The project includes the evaluation of existing software solutions such as Kausal or ClimateView in order to test their suitability for the requirements of the Bregenz Climate Compass. The aim is to develop a detailed requirements profile for the climate compass, which will serve as the basis for deciding whether existing web applications should be adapted or a new solution programmed.
The exploratory study ensures that the Climate Compass is optimally tailored to the specific needs of the city of Bregenz, the participating stakeholders and the population and will increase the efficiency of climate protection measures in the future.
Expected results
The cooperation with other municipalities is aimed in particular at designing the process and the specifications for the Climate Compass in such a way that they also meet the needs and requirements of other municipalities.
Through the exchange of best practices and the use of synergies, the climate compass will become a versatile tool on the path to climate neutrality in Austrian cities.
