By creating transparency as well as placing existing policies and governance tools in relation to one another, the matrix offers an overview across departments and institutions that allows synergies to be utilized and gaps to be closed.

Development of qualitative and quantitative planning objectives as well as an implementation strategy for the transformation of the Otto Wagner Area along the New European Bauhaus guidelines. The basis is formed by interdisciplinary expert forums, which provide important insights for the necessary transformation of existing areas and buildings in other cities as well.

OctoAI: The next generation of high-performance edge AI for smart buildings

Current IoT (Internet of Things) solutions for buildings depend almost exclusively on cloud infrastructure and cloud-based services. In the OctoAI project, we are developing the next generation of high-performance Edge AI (Artificial Intelligence) for smart buildings. In OctoAI, we combine the concept of edge AI with user-centric energy services and test two edge-ready applications.

Optimization in Existing Structures - Implementation Concept for Energy Optimization in the Existing District of Nofels in Feldkirch

The project aims to optimize energy use in the district through savings, densification, retrofitting, and energy storage. Additionally, climate-adapted open spaces are intended to enhance quality of life and resilience. The results will be scaled up to the entire city and make a significant contribution to achieving climate neutrality.

Using the Hannes-Bammer-Sports Hall as a case study, the PDCA4Future feasibility project in Bruck an der Mur aims to develop an innovative planning and assessment tool. This involves creating renovation and financing models that align climate neutrality goals with sustainable urban planning. The research project "WEG zur Zukunft / Path to the Future" examines the low renovation rates of condominium owners' associations (WEGs) in Austria and the associated communicative, regulatory, organizational, and financial challenges. In collaboration with the affected stakeholders – primarily owners and property management companies – foundations for solutions are being developed through a co-creative process that can assist in the path toward implementation.

PersonAI - User-Centered AI-based energy services built on personal preference models

Conduct a large-scale, long-term study with 40-50 people to create personal comfort profiles to increase comfort in buildings. The personal comfort profiles will then be fed back into the building control system as input variables in a proof-of-concept.

PhaseOut – Heat pump technologies in the renovation of existing buildings

The aim is the conception, optimization, implementation, demonstration and evaluation of innovative, minimally invasive renovation solutions (thermal renovation and heating system replacement) with heat pumps and PV in multi-storey buildings on seven identical buildings. The comprehensive comparison includes various technical solution variants based on modular and scalable building technology systems as well as multifunctional building components for the exchange of decentralized gas heating by central, semi-central and decentralized heat pump solutions.

Pioneer City - Partnership for Climate Neutral Cities 2030

With its participation in the "Mission:Klimaneutrale Stadt", the City of Innsbruck is pursuing the goal of setting the course for achieving climate neutrality. In addition to the creation of structures within the city administration, climate-effective measures are being tested in the existing "Eichhof"-residential quarter together with the stakeholders. Successful measures shall then be implemented throughout the city. The intensive exchange with the other pioneer cities, the conscious use of synergy and the associated broad spectrum of knowledge and experience are necessary resources for the implementation of this project

Plan4.Energy – methodological set for the planning support of positive energy districts

Plan4.Energy develops a set of methods to support the planning of positive energy districts. The data-based system integration will enable a user-friendly quantitative assessment of the possibilities for building a positive energy district. This will allow stakeholders without the relevant background knowledge to realistically assess different project variants.

PlusIQ - Agricultural Photovoltaics: Integration as a Path to Plus-Energy-Quarters

This project examines opportunities, potentials and requirements of/for Agrophotovoltaic systems. Thereby, an interdisciplinary study will be conducted that integrates the major aspects of such systems holistically and from an integrative perspective. The complex interdependencies between the different aspects will be explored and described via a case study. Potential approaches toward realization will be studied and subjected to a comprehensive SWOT-analysis.

Programme Evaluation of "City of Tomorrow" 2013 - 2021

This evaluation examined the effects that the "City of Tomorrow" programme has achieved since its inception. The evaluation is based on extensive surveys of research project participants and various multipliers from application areas such as civil engineering and urban planning. The evaluation thereby creates an important basis for the design of future research funding.

ProzesSan - Development of processes to increase the decarbonisation and refurbishment rate in the housing sector

The project aims to assist owners of large property portfolios with the challenges of refurbishing their buildings. The first step is to identify the various obstacles and develop appropriate solutions. These will be tested in three workshop phases with the owners, and a workshop manual and guidelines will be developed.

Development of a process concept to bring sustainable qualities in neighbourhood development from the intention and announcement level to the built reality. The process is supported by digital methods of energy and structural design and evaluated in the context of a case study.

REGOreal - 100% Renewable Energy Region: Local Energy Common Good Economy in real laboratories for networked energy and mobility cells

In REGOreal, the exploration for a 100% renewable energy region in the area of Retz-Horn-Krems-Tulln (Lower Austria) and Mallnitz (Ktn) is taking place. There are four focus topics: 100 Renewable Energy Communities (REC), 1.000 building renovations, 10.000 energy exporters (in the sense of employees who carry the approach into their private environment) and 100 Mio. km of sustainable mobility with extensive use of IT for the development of local integrated energy systems (IES) to integrate a colorful mix of different actors and objects.

RENOWAVE.AT will act as a central contact point for collaboration in innovation projects and provide systematic and early access to as well as promote innovative, scalable renovation concepts and sustainable renovation technologies within real development environments (open innovation principle).
