PioneerCityDornbirn - Transformation of the city of Dornbirn towards a climate-neutral city.

Starting point / motivation

The city of Dornbirn, known for its innovative strength and commitment to sustainability, faces the challenge of intensifying its climate activities. In a time when climate change is becoming increasingly urgent, Dornbirn envisions taking a leading role in the transformation towards a climate-neutral city. The city recognizes the need to reduce not only its own CO2 emissions but also to involve the community in this process.

Contents and goals

The project "PioneerCityDornbirn" is an ambitious endeavor that centers on the decarbonization of the city of Dornbirn. A key element of the project is the city-wide model for CO2 modeling of end energy, developed in the preliminary project "KlimDo". This model serves as a basis for the development of strategies and measures intended to lead the city towards climate neutrality.

Methods / implementation

The project focuses on building up internal competencies to effectively implement decarbonization measures. Teams are formed, focusing on various aspects of decarbonization, from energy efficiency to the renewal of urban infrastructure. By collaborating with local stakeholders, businesses, and citizens, an integrative approach is pursued to involve the entire community in the transformation process.

Expected results

With the implementation of the project "PioneerCityDornbirn", the city expects significant progress towards climate neutrality. KLIMDO - Urban energy and climate strategy of the city of Dornbirn as basis for achieving climate neutrality by 2030

A central goal of the project is to obtain detailed knowledge of energy consumption, energy consumption flows and energy potentials including spatialization in the entire urban araea of Dornbirn. Based on this data, various scenarios are to be elaborated that map possible developments in the city. Subsequently, the basis for an energy and climate strategy based on the vision of climate neutrality will be prepared.
