Q2NEB - Transformation of quarters according to criteria of the New European Bauhaus
Short Description
Starting point / motivation
In current national and European research and implementation programmes, the integration of individual buildings into intelligently linked and interacting (urban) districts plays a significant role.
The New European Bauhaus (NEB) policy and funding initiative, launched in 2021, goes beyond the planning of energy-efficient quarters and considers how to create aesthetically pleasing, socially equitable and (ecologically) sustainable neighbourhoods.
The NEB and its three strongly interconnected values of sustainability, aesthetics and inclusion are intended to shape the building culture of our current times and pave Europe's way towards climate neutrality in the building sector.
To achieve this, it is necessary to inspire companies of the construction and real estate sectors to embrace these aspects of building culture and to prepare them specifically for the complex challenges and opportunities associated with the transformation of buildings and districts.
Contents and goals
The central objective of the project is to train employees of Austrian companies in interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral cooperation for the implementation of NEB projects, considering the European legal frameworks.
This creates new knowledge, deepens it through practical application exercises, and strengthens the innovation competence of the participating companies.
Barriers to the implementation of NEB criteria are discussed and analyzed within the qualification network, and solutions are developed and communicated.
What distinguishes Q2NEB from existing training programmes is the practical application of NEB criteria and the direct transfer of knowledge to specific current and future projects.
Methods
The EU initiative New European Bauhaus forms the basis and the central theme of the Q2NEB qualification network.
Blended learning methods to teach the necessary basics enables a high degree of flexibility for participants in terms of time and location but also different levels of knowledge.
The acquired skills are consolidated during excursions to selected neighbourhoods followed by workshops to analyse and identify optimisation potentials.
Specific planning and software tools for evaluating buildings and neighborhoods based on NEB criteria are presented and applied in synchronous online training sessions.
The "Nebathon" – a virtual project competition for practicing transdisciplinary collaboration – concludes the course.
Expected Results
At the end of the project, participants will have expanded, interdisciplinary basic knowledge and experience in transdisciplinary work on projects implementing the New European Bauhaus initiative.
The basic knowledge and practical findings from the project will be widely disseminated.
The development of new cooperative offers by the participating companies is initiated within the framework of sustainable networking and interdisciplinary cooperation.
Specific neighborhood projects are analyzed and evaluated based on the NEB criteria.
