Climate Quarter Melk
Radical and comprehensive transformation of a city quarter in the small town of Melk, Lower Austria, involving the areas of urban planning, landscape architecture, traffic planning and co-creation - demonstrated by the implementation and rededication of a parking lot to an urban, inner-city climate forest within project life-time.
Climate Strategy 2040 by and with the municipality of Vöcklabruck
The municipality of Vöcklabruck is one of the first Climate Alliance municipalities in Upper Austria, a long-standing member of the Vöckla-Ager Climate and Energy Model Region (KEM) and regularly implements measures and projects in the field of climate protection.
Climate communities
Transdisciplinarily developed climate-friendly solutions for decarbonisation of the building stock in small and medium-sized municipalities. The application of the sample solutions will readily identifiable through a web tool.
Climate neutral Wiener Neustadt 2040
Wiener Neustadt wants to develop its own vision and implementation strategy for climate neutrality by 2040 and develop it in four steps.
Climate neutrality roadmap Klosterneuburg
Klosterneuburg is located between the Vienna Woods and the Danube floodplains, a city with a high proportion of green and recreational space while being close to Vienna. This location makes Klosterneuburg an interesting case study for researching climate neutrality – particularly in the areas of CO₂-emissions-free commuter transport, climate-friendly services, and CO₂ sequestration through forestry.
Climate neutrality roadmap St. Veit/Glan
St. Veit/Glan aims at advancing to a beacon for other small Austrian towns by developing strategies, measures and for building the capacity, necessary for achieving climate neutrality by 2040.
Climate pioneer city Salzburg
The aim is to draw up a master plan to achieve climate neutrality for the city of Salzburg by 2040. Together with stakeholders, development and urban planning processes can be analyzed, targets set and the necessary resolutions obtained. The exchange with the other pioneering cities is intended to ensure the broadest possible exchange of knowledge and to exploit synergies.
Climate-School-Life - Preparation of the climate-neutral educational campus in Gratwein-Straßengel
The project aims to start the transformation process of the educational campus of the market town of Gratwein-Straßengel into climate-neutrality. The need for the expansion and modernisation of the elementary school forms the central part of this development. The project provides an integrated district concept for the four central infrastructure topics of the project: urban development, architecture, mobility and energy. Participation processes of the population and innovative financing models are further components of the exploration.
ClimateConcrete Bregenz - Model development of transferable NEB quality processes for climate-resilient urban districts in Bregenz
KlimaKonkret Bregenz is not a traditional planning project; rather, it develops a clear framework for quality and decision-making in future urban development. Its aim is to bring together topics such as climate resilience, mobility, building culture, and social issues in a way that enables policymakers and administrators to make well-informed, sustainable long-term decisions. This results in concrete tools, such as binding quality criteria in accordance with NEBKritQ and—where appropriate—a design guideline derived from these criteria for future projects.
Co-Housing Gutenberg: Integrated Sector Coupling for Shared Living, Energy, and Mobility
The "CoHoGutenberg" project aims to establish a sustainable co-housing model in the rural community of Gutenberg, Styria, by combining sufficiency principles with state-of-the-art energy technologies.
Commercial Quarter Erdberger Mais (EBM) - Transformation of a Business Development Area into a Climate-Resilient Commercial Quarter
The project addresses the urgent need to further develop existing industrial areas in a climate-resilient, resource-efficient, and future-oriented way. The approximately 7.6-hectare commercially used site in Vienna is to be developed as an industrial-commercial area in line with the Wien-Plan (Urban Development Plan 2035).
Cool Windows - Windows with shading optimising the trade-off between summery overheating, wintery heat protection and adequate illumination
Windows with their associated components such as sun and glare protection are optimised as a holistic building equipment unit regarding different seasonal requirements in light of the climate crisis. The results serve as a basis for new developments in the window and shading technology in order to provide summery and wintery heat protection as well as adequate natural illumination over the year.
DataScience4SmartQuarters - Energy saving potentials through neighbourhood and community planning – Part 2
DataScience4SmartQuarters develops and researches an innovative method for the fast and efficient evaluation of simulation scenarios (building/energy, mobility) for communities.
Decarb Alt Erlaa - Transformation of Alt Erlaa residential park into a climate neutral district
The “Decarb Alt Erlaa” research project has demonstrated how Austria’s largest housing estate can be transformed into a climate-neutral neighbourhood. Feasibility studies on structural and building services engineering measures, social support, carbon capture technologies and risk analyses confirm the technical feasibility and social acceptability of the project. The “JUNG Erlaa” demonstration project now offers the opportunity to put the developed concepts into practice.
Densifying without Sealing - Research on the sustainable transformation of existing single-family neighbourhoods
Interdisciplinary research to develop and test a new approach for significantly increasing density in existing single-family neighbourhoods without adding any new sealed land, by strategically extending buildings upwards within their current footprint. The project delivers a practical decision basis to pave the way for a demonstration project supporting climate-resilient urban development.
ECO-Transformation - Energy transformation through community building, sufficiency and serial solutions using the example of the "Cottage District"
Combining technical and environmental-psychological expertise to develop a transformation process towards a climate-neutral neighbourhood based on the methods of community building, sufficiency potential and serial implementation solutions using the example of the Cottage Quarter. Preparation of the serial implementation of the developed solutions and the transformation process.
EM Städte - Monitoring and evaluation of urban energy flows
In the first phase of the project, the data source of the energy statistics will be analyzed. Based on the findings of the analysis a methodology on build up regional energy balances will be developed. The methodology will be integrated into the Senflusk tool and tested on five reference cities in Austria.
