The project develops an innovative multi-benefit approach for urban landfill photovoltaics by integrating methane oxidation, biodiversity-enhancing vegetation, and inclusive citizen participation.
Climate Quarter Melk
Radical and comprehensive transformation of a city quarter in the small town of Melk, Lower Austria, involving the areas of urban planning, landscape architecture, traffic planning and co-creation - demonstrated by the implementation and rededication of a parking lot to an urban, inner-city climate forest within project life-time.
Climate-School-Life - Preparation of the climate-neutral educational campus in Gratwein-Straßengel
The project aims to start the transformation process of the educational campus of the market town of Gratwein-Straßengel into climate-neutrality. The need for the expansion and modernisation of the elementary school forms the central part of this development. The project provides an integrated district concept for the four central infrastructure topics of the project: urban development, architecture, mobility and energy. Participation processes of the population and innovative financing models are further components of the exploration.
Co-Housing Gutenberg: Integrated Sector Coupling for Shared Living, Energy, and Mobility
The "CoHoGutenberg" project aims to establish a sustainable co-housing model in the rural community of Gutenberg, Styria, by combining sufficiency principles with state-of-the-art energy technologies.
CoSpatial Heat - Joint spatial coordination of heat supply in Gleisdorf
CoSpatial Heat is developing an integrated, geodata-based heating and gas supply planning concept for the Gleisdorf region. By jointly considering space heating, process heat, and gas infrastructure, future supply, expansion, and decommissioning areas are identified. The systemic integration of GIS analyses, consumption data, energy audits, and stakeholder knowledge generates robust decision-making foundations for municipalities, industry, and network operators.
DEKARBOdezentral - Cost-effective Implementation of Decentralised Decarbonisation in Residential Buildings
The project explores cost-effective, decentralised heat pump solutions as an alternative to gas-fired floor combi boilers in existing flats. By utilising existing infrastructures such as chimney shafts, minimally invasive decarbonisation is enabled without comprehensive building refurbishment.
DUO-TES - Double utilization of aboveground and underground sprinkler water tanks as thermal energy storages
Exploratory project on the dual use of sprinkler and fire-fighting water tanks as thermal energy storages and their integration into building-internal heating and cooling processes as well as into district heating and cooling networks. The dual use of this infrastructure promises significant decarbonization and cost-reduction potential through energy savings and an increased share of renewable energy, while simultaneously enhancing system resilience.
Diverse DH Pöchlarn - Diversification strategies for a sector-coupled district heating supply in the municipality of Pöchlarn
The project aims to explore the feasibility of maximizing industrial waste heat extraction into the district heating system of the municipality of Pöchlarn so that the defossilization path can be taken further.
Drain2Energy - Demonstration of a wastewater heat exchanger suitable for renovation in two existing buildings
Drain2Energy demonstrates an innovative in-house wastewater heat exchanger that can also utilize black water from toilets and is particularly suitable for retrofitting existing buildings. The technology is being tested in two demonstration buildings and monitored in real operation. The results provide key insights into the potential of wastewater heat as a renewable heat source and promote the use of this technology in existing and new buildings.
E3 - Energy, Equity, Equality
Identification of barriers faced by specific groups in utilizing key energy transition technologies in communal and urban settings, including smart home, electric mobility, and energy communities. The results serve as a foundation for the development of inclusive and socially just technologies.
