KPQ goes NEB – Transformation of a Climate Pioneer Existing Neighborhood Using NEB Quality Criteria (Based on KPQ Graz)
With the "Climate Pioneer City Graz" (KPS Graz) project, the City of Graz is pursuing the strategic implementation of its climate protection plan by developing climate-neutral neighbourhoods, among other things. Based on the ongoing exploratory project "KPQ Graz", "KPQ goes NEB" focuses on the climate-neutral transformation of the Roseggersiedlung - a residential neighbourhood owned by Wohnen Graz dating back to the 1940s with 395 residential units. The aim is to transfer tried-and-tested development processes from new-build and conversion projects to the more complex environment of an existing neighbourhood.
RCC2 - Life cycle assessment of heatable formwork for CO2-reduced and climate-neutral concrete
Experimental development of innovative formulations of CO2-reduced concrete and heated formwork to support early strength development in wintry temperatures.
reSOILution - Utilization of excavated soil for the production of earthen building materials
Excavated materials generate large amounts of waste and represent a key lever for resource conservation and waste reduction in the construction sector. The reSOILution project explores how excavated soil can be circularly processed into earthen building materials to reduce CO₂ emissions and promote a sustainable construction industry.
DUO-TES - Double utilization of aboveground and underground sprinkler water tanks as thermal energy storages
Exploratory project on the dual use of sprinkler and fire-fighting water tanks as thermal energy storages and their integration into building-internal heating and cooling processes as well as into district heating and cooling networks. The dual use of this infrastructure promises significant decarbonization and cost-reduction potential through energy savings and an increased share of renewable energy, while simultaneously enhancing system resilience.
REFUGIUM – Innovative Use of Church Infrastructure for Inclusive and Climate-Resilient Neighborhood Development
REFUGIUM is developing a new collaborative approach (public-private partnership) between the City of Klagenfurt and the Catholic Church. In four pilot neighborhoods, innovative climate protection measures will be jointly identified and examined. This exploratory phase serves as the basis for planned demonstration projects and thus represents an important contribution to the Smart City climate strategy and to the EU Cities Mission "100 climate-neutral and smart cities by 2030".
V-Form – Manufacturing unreinforced vaulted concrete floors with variable pneumatic formworks
V-Form is working on the development of vaulted concrete floors in terms of structural design and building physics, as well as on a new formwork system. Thanks to the efficient shell construction, around 70% CO2eq-emissions can be saved compared to reinforced concrete flat slabs. The reusable and variable pneumatic formwork system aims to enable the economical production of the double-curved concrete shells.
NeoEAI4Control - Neuro-Symbolic Edge AI for Efficient and Robust Control in Energy Management
Increasing energy efficiency in buildings is a key goal of the energy transition, which, together with increasing digitalization, is leading to new requirements for intelligent control and regulation. Traditional control methods are reaching their limits. As part of the project, we propose the use of edge AI with specialized neuromorphic chips to enable scalable, decentralized, efficient, and real-time control in buildings.
StatiPLANT - Exploration of a standardized model for the static assessment of climbing plants
The StatiPLANT project aims to systematically record and analyze static loads on vertically greened facades caused by climbing plants under the influence of wind, tensile forces, and dead loads of the plants. The goal is to develop a conceptual, parameterizable assessment model as the basis for a standardized design procedure in structural engineering.
DigiHemp/ Digital technologies for quality assurance and performance enhancement of hemp-based building materials
Development of digital methods for describing, predicting and optimizing the thermal/mechanical properties of composite materials made from bio-based raw materials. Taking into account the complex material morphology as well as the properties of the components for the prediction of building material properties, the overall goal of increasing the use of bio-based building materials shall be achieved.
m-hub - a web-based data hub for collection and query of material compositions of the building stock of the City of Vienna
The project creates a web-based platform with which the material composition of buildings within the city of Vienna can be entered and queried. In the background, a prediction model based on artificial intelligence is trained to make forecasts for buildings that have not yet been cataloged.
