Zukunftshof - Zukunftshof Rothneusiedl - Crystallization point of a climate model district

Transdisciplinary expert networking to develop a structural, thermal, and energy-efficient renovation concept, as well as a master plan with innovative energy, monitoring, green space, and agricultural utilization concepts. The result serves as a source of ideas for contemporary revitalization and forms the basis for the implementation of the demonstration project.

Short Description

Starting point / motivation

The "Zukunftshof", formerly known as "Haschahof", is a historic area in the southeast of Vienna that was used for agricultural purposes in the past. The courtyard ensemble was built at the end of the 19th century and forms the future gateway from the grown city to the new urban expansion area of Rothneusiedl.

While successful measures have been implemented to create an address, to anchor the project as an identity-forming project and to provide seasonal interim uses, the structural renovation and thermal energy supply of the buildings have been neglected until now.

The aim is to renovate 15 buildings (sections) with a gross floor area of 6,238 m² on a site area of 8,681 m² and make them fit for a climate-neutral future.

Contents and goals

The project aims to create an innovative mix of uses, including urban food production, energy generation, marketing, education, events and temporary housing, to breathe new life into the buildings.

A renovation concept based on renewable energy and energy efficiency measures and a master plan will be developed. These measures and technologies will bring the "Zukunftshof" from the technical state of the 19th century to the state of the 21st century and establish it as a model farm for organic farming and food production in the long term.

Methods

After an inventory, which will be presented in a technical factsheet, the local energy potential and demand will be analyzed and at least three different renovation concepts will be developed. These concepts will be evaluated and prioritized using a matrix based on defined criteria that follow the 4-pillar model of wohnfonds_wien.

Expected results

The result of the project is a master plan with innovative concepts for energy, monitoring, green space and agricultural use. This master plan forms the basis for the implementation of the demonstration project.
