MADOKLI - Mannersdorf climate fit! Using local resources to combat and adapt to climate change for a climate-neutral neighbourhood
Short Description
Starting point / motivation
The 'MADOKLI' project – Mannersdorf climate fit! - aims to develop a climate-neutral neighbourhood in the municipality of Mannersdorf am Leithagebirge by combining innovative measures for climate change adaptation and decarbonisation.
The novelty of the project lies in the integration of previously unused heat sources and sinks, such as the underground Mühlbach stream, the establishment of use-orientated water management and the development of solutions for climate-friendly outdoor spaces. Alternative water resources, such as spring water and rainwater, are analysed and integrated into a new concept for the climate-neutral operation of municipal buildings.
Contents and goals
The aim of the project is to increase climate resilience and reduce the risk of overheating in the neighbourhood by daylighting the Mühlbach stream and creating blue-green infrastructure.
In addition, alternative energy sources are to be used to supply heating and cooling to municipal buildings to avoid greenhouse gas emissions and promote climate protection.
The project focuses on participatory processes to promote the acceptance of future implementation projects in the community.
Methods
The work programme focuses on the identification of local heat and water resources as well as the planning of concrete implementation measures and their cost planning and financing. Technical variant studies, SWOT analyses and coordination with the relevant authorities are used to prepare a subsequent R&D demonstration project, which is to be implemented following successful exploration.
Expected results
Mannersdorf is part of the climate adaptation region 'KLAR! Am Leithaberge' and wants to use the MADOKLI project to create a highly visible flagship project for climate-neutral neighbourhoods in rural communities and thus become a role model for the region.
