Fit4Klim - Fit through education for the climate
Short Description
Starting point / motivation
Cities are currently facing numerous challenges with regard to climate change - on the one hand, they are required to transform themselves towards climate neutrality, while on the other hand, they must simultaneously implement adaptation measures and create climate-resilient structures due to the advancing climate change. Many cities are overwhelmed by this and do not have the resources to deal with these complex issues in depth.
They are asking themselves what concrete consequences climate change and the associated regulations will have for their city and what political decisions and actions will result from this? This project offers cities a way to gain clarity on this matter. With the support of experienced research partners, the latest innovative tools can be applied and challenges and potential solutions can be exchanged with other cities and researchers.
Contents and goals
The aim of the project is to develop and test customised training courses for the qualification of cities and municipalities in the following areas:
- Climate-resilient spatial planning and land policy
- Climate protection and climate change adaptation
- Green finance and EU taxonomy
- Climate protection data and corresponding data management
- Spatial energy planning & energy efficiency
- Urban mobility
Methods
The training courses will be developed in detail in the first project phase based on the training topics outlined in the application. Lectures with interactive parts as well as interactive workshops and simulation games will be carried out, either online or face-to-face (in person). The training content and implementation are continuously evaluated and adapted where necessary. Interactive surveys and quizzes are designed to enable training participants to check their own training progress.
Expected results
The results should reflect Austria's territorial diversity and the various challenges faced by cities in responding to climate change. In the course of the project, qualification modules will be developed in close consultation with the cities and municipalities, which can be completed both online and face-to-face.
The seminars will also provide opportunities to identify specific examples from the municipalities and develop exemplary solutions in group work. Analogue, digital and hybrid tools will provide essential support for the training courses.
In addition, the project also offers the opportunity to network and exchange ideas with several cities and research institutions beyond the further training programme. The training documents are prepared and published afterwards.
