SeiersbergPirka2040 - #wirsindzukunft: Roadmap for a climate-neutral future in Seiersberg-Pirka

Seiersberg-Pirka is the second largest municipality in the district of Graz-Umgebung and was created in the course of the Styrian municipal reform in 2015 by merging the previously independent municipalities of Seiersberg and Pirka. The municipality is located south-west of the provincial capital Graz and is one of the fastest growing municipalities in Austria.

Short Description

Seiersberg Pirka Coat of Arms

The municipality has been a Climate Alliance municipality since 1995 and was awarded the state quality seal 'Family-friendly municipality' in 2020. In 2020, the municipality joined the e5 programme and was already awarded 3e in the first audit.

As a 'family and child-friendly' municipality, Seiersberg-Pirka takes responsibility for maintaining the quality of life of future generations. The motivation to implement the project is underpinned by the core statements from the energy mission statement drawn up in 2024:

  • 'CO2 emissions must start to fall from 2022. Our goal is to become a fossil-free municipality.'
  • 'The coming years are crucial for a successful future. The time to act is now. It's about taking action, not having concepts. Our self-imposed goals should also be followed by concrete actions.'

Seiersberg-Pirka would therefore like to take action and, building on the existing mission statement from the e5 programme, develop a concrete roadmap of measures including resources and financing options for the period up to 2040 - the climate roadmap for Seiersberg-Pirka - for the areas of building & renovation, energy & environment, mobility & transport, life & economy and climate change adaptation. The focus is on activities within the municipality's sphere of influence.
