Strengths and weaknesses of the Austrian construction sector in relation to the New European Bauhaus Initiative
Short Description
The data about specific NEB projects was created by an invitation to submit projects to GrAT, a search for Austrian submissions to the New European Bauhaus Prize 2021 and 2022 and research for additional projects via databases such as "klimaaktiv". The collection of best practice examples in terms of NEB in Austria is attached to this report.
Additionally, an online survey was created to give a broad range of actors a possibility to communicate their opinion of how to deal with industry based and legal challenges concerning a sustainable development in the building sector and how the New European Bauhaus initiative can help to achieve an indispensable change. For a better understanding of the NEB values, the best practice collection was attached to the survey.
Within the NEB values beautiful, sustainable, together GrAT defined key points which enlighten a possible Austrian approach of implementing those values. The study shows that there are some remarkable examples of how Austria can lead the initiative to new spirits but also that at some point there is potential of gaining new knowledge and ideas of other European partners.
With a long tradition of craftsmanship and therefor a great knowledge about technics and materials, Austria can play a leading role in the New European Bauhaus initiative. A broad inter-European exchange of ideas, technical expertise and training schemes can lead to a more sustainable future for all Europeans.
