Zwettl climate neutrality roadmap
Short Description
The world is facing a climate crisis and the human influence on climate development is well known and scientifically proven. The Republic of Austria has set itself the goal of being climate-neutral by 2040 at the latest. This also requires ambitious targets at municipal level. In view of this development, the municipality of Zwettl has therefore decided to take action with the ambitious goal of being climate-neutral by 2035.
The aim of the planned project is to develop a climate neutrality roadmap for Zwettl together with the relevant stakeholders, the municipal administration and the general public, which sets out a clear and realisable path for the municipality to become climate neutral by 2035. A unanimous decision by the municipal council on the climate neutrality roadmap should also officially legitimise it as a central document.
The central result of the project is a climate neutrality roadmap for Zwettl, which includes the following topics:
- concrete, realisable short-, medium- and long-term measures including an exact and comprehensive description based on predefined criteria such as target contribution, actors involved, implementation costs, financing requirements, CO2 savings potential,...
- A coordinated implementation plan, including possible financing options for the short- and medium-term measures
- Necessary adjustments or reorganisation of administrative processes and structures in order to avoid unnecessarily delaying or preventing the implementation of the measures developed and also to anchor climate neutrality centrally and comprehensively.
For the first time, the municipality now has an actionable roadmap for phasing out fossil fuels. This and the measures recommended in it form the framework and basis for future political decisions and resolutions on the path to climate neutrality.
At 256 km², the municipality of Zwettl is one of the largest municipalities in Austria in terms of area. It is therefore particularly important to actively tackle the challenges of climate change. Renewable energies, sustainable mobility, but also climate adaptation measures are essential factors for the future of our municipality, but also for the next generation. The climate neutrality roadmap should be a tool for us to develop realistic and effective strategies and implement them by 2035.
