Rankweil 2040 - Development of a climate neutrality roadmap for the town of Rankweil

The town of Rankweil is already very active in environmental and climate protection. The development of the Climate Neutrality Plan aims to further strengthen this commitment and develop concrete measures to achieve climate neutrality in Rankweil.

Since 2005, Rankweil has been an e5-municipality and is part of both the „KEM-Region" and „KLAR!-Region" Vorderland-Feldkirch. In 2022, with the decision to achieve a climate-neutral municipal administration by 2040, the municipal council also committed to national and international climate goals.

The Climate Neutrality Plan developed within the project "Rankweil 2040" is intended to serve the responsible administration as a central working basis and to outline concrete measures to achieve climate neutrality. The main focuses are on energy, mobility, buildings, and sustainable spatial planning. Additionally, the topics of environment and habitats, agriculture, and administrative organization are also considered.

Existing concepts and guidelines such as the Environmental and Energy Guideline, the Climate Change Adaptation Strategy, and the Spatial Development Plan serve as the basis. These will be updated, consolidated, and supplemented with further goals and measures. Thematic workshops with broad involvement of the administration, politics, and relevant stakeholders will support this process.
The final Climate Neutrality Plan is expected to contain concrete measures that are evaluated for their effectiveness and prioritized over time. Responsibilities for implementation and the resources needed for this will also be defined.

Today, it goes without saying that we as a market town are taking responsibility for a climate-friendly future - and I am proud that we are an active part of this important federal initiative with our “Climate Neutral City” mission. Together with other pioneering cities, we are developing practical solutions for the energy and mobility transition as well as the circular economy that are not only sustainable, but also bring tangible benefits for our immediate living space: better quality of life, health and secure supplies. This initiative shows how much we can achieve when research, innovation and local communities work together - for a future that is not only possible, but essential.
