kLimanEutral2040 - Creation of a climate neutrality roadmap for the municipality of Leoben
Short Description
As a city traditionally shaped by industry and commerce, Leoben faces significant challenges, including
declining population numbers, high commuter rates, vacant properties in the city centre, and numerous industrial brownfields. Enhancing the city centre's attractiveness and improving its quality of life are therefore of critical importance.
The primary goal of the R&D service is to develop a comprehensive roadmap for achieving climate
neutrality by 2040. In addition to the citywide vision, the following specific objectives will be addressed:
- Tailored measures to achieve climate neutrality, building on consolidated strategies and activities.
- Short-, medium-, and long-term actions across all relevant sectors (energy, mobility, buildings), with a focus on industrial transformation and sustainable urban development.
- Early involvement of all relevant decision-makers and stakeholders.
- Greening efforts to establish recreational spaces and contribute to soil protection.
The outcome of the R&D service will be a climate neutrality roadmap for Leoben, developed in
collaboration with the city administration, political actors, and relevant stakeholders. In addition to
actions within the city's direct sphere of influence, the roadmap will also include supplementary activities that fall outside the city's immediate control and can only be implemented with the support of stakeholders.
